Helen, Georgia
Black Forest Bear Park, located in Helen Georgia, is a great place to take the kids for a couple of hours. It is located in downtown Helen on Main Street. There are many shops and restaurants close by, so check them out after you’ve seen the bears!
There are 16 bears on exhibit here. These bears are not only adorable but they are fun and have such great personalities. We had bears dancing for us, waving at us, and of coarse those who looked at us like we should just keep on walking (hey, bears have bad days too!). These bears have individual enclosures with their own swimming pools.
There is also a small snake exhibit to see. Although it made my skin crawl, my children loved it! They had a variety of snakes to see. Thankfully, they are all locked up and there is no snake handling.
The bear park is a great way to spend a couple of hours while you’re in Helen. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the park and of the habitats of the bears. They also have snack trays available for $2 each. Some of the bears will put on a little show for food, so it is worth the money to get the snack trays. Be sure to shop the gift shop before you leave. They have one of the biggest gift shops I’ve ever seen and offer a wide variety of items.
The park is open from 10am until 4:30pm Sunday through Thursday but is open later on Fridays and Saturdays. Admission is $5 per person with children under 2 getting in for free. Parking is free. For more information, visit www.blackforestbearpark.com or call (706)-878-7043.
