The Schenectady Farmer’s Market is actually a difficult Farmer’s Market to write about. It is not just a Farmer’s Market–it is an experience. It is an experience of people of shared interests and values. This is, after all, a place where you can come and strike a conversation with just about anyone–and part friends.
If you’ve heard of the saying, “There’s no such thing as strangers; only friends you haven’t met”, then surely the Schenectady Farmer’s Market comes to mind.
Running year round, the market is in Proctor’s Theatre on State Street during the Winter. In the Summer, you can find it in front of the Schenectady City Hall.
What makes this place so special, in addition to the people here, is the fact that everything is homemade.
In a world where everything is made in China you have a group of artisians here who bring their craft to the people who love them.
Phil of the Cooper’s Ark Farm picks his eggs daily before heading out to the market.
Looking for milk? Only here can you buy milk that tastes like milk used to, clean and fresh and from the cow–with all the safety of pasteurization. The dairy farm takes a few extra steps to present it to you “The way it was.”
Breads, organic vegatables, unprocessed meats: The market is the place where a small group of artisians who have worked so hard to perfect what nature has given them finally come to a marketplace of people who appreciate them.
It is a lifestyle. It is a specialty. It is an experience.
Thank you for helping to bring the Schenectady Greenmarket to the Capital District public. I have been attending this weekly event for over a year. I love introducing my family and friends to this local phenomenon. We all agree that the market not only supplies us with quality wholesome, fresh, local products and entertainment, but the atmosphere created gives a friendly, heartening, and home-town community feeling. I hope to see ya’ll there!
We’re there EVERY week! My son officially won’t drink any other milk. Have you ever had one of Vince’s (Ambition) egg sandwiches? Or those multi-grain granola bars? With one in each hand, and a hot cup of coffee on the table, I often say, “Life just doesn’t get any better!”
We’re there every week, too. See ya’ll there!
