Forsyth Park, located in Savannah Georgia, is among the top visitor’s attractions in Savannah and is definitely a must see. The style of the park was modeled after the urban renewal of Paris in the nineteenth century. All of the parks in Savannah’s historic district are simply beautiful but if you only have time for one, make it Forsyth Park.

Imagine flowers in bloom, the Spanish moss hanging from the trees and swaying gently in the breeze. People seem so happy in Forsyth Park, it even seems as though the dogs are even smiling. It is such a wonderful place to relax, let the kids play on the playground, and forget about your worries.

Forsyth is most known by the big fountain in the middle of the park. The fountain has been featured in movies and magazines worldwide and is also one of the most popular places in Savannah to get married. The fountain was created in 1858 and later restored in 1988. There is an iron gate at the basin to keep people out of the water, but this site makes for great photographs.

Just past the fountain is a large playground. There are some unique things on the playground and my boys loved playing here. They also have baby swings for the little ones who can’t quite run around with the big kids yet.

The lawn has a lot of space for your family to run, play, and relax together. Some people were throwing frisbees and footballs while others were simply on a blanket having a picnic. There were also people there alone laying on a blanket and reading a book, just enjoying the weather.

Parking is readily available down the streets and side streets and is free. There are also no fees to get into the park. Forsyth Park is a great place whether you’re alone, or have the whole family with you. For more information, visit http://www.savannahga.gov/cityweb/SavannahGaGOV.nsf
