Movie Mangia-Cooking with Kids!
By Kim Gorham
Trying to keep the kiddies occupied and most of all not bored is anything but a feat. Yes, there is laser tag and play dates. But then you have the movies! Movies, however, with a twist. We have the Smurfs, the Chipmunks and now Starwars (again). Choose your child’s favorite, and when you come home, start cooking!
Can be a boring week for all of us!
Take your favorite character (or place) of the movie, and base your meal around it. The kids will love it, and it will make learning how to cook, fun.
Some examples:
The Smurf Smoothie
-Yogurt (vanilla, plain, blueberry)
-milk
-fresh or frozen blueberries
-1-2 teaspoons of honey, if the blueberries are tart
Put all ingredients in a blender and blitz! The measurements don’t even have to be exact. The Little Helpers can make their own perfect blend.
A few more:
Chocolate Chip-munk Pancakes
-pancake batter
-add chips after pouring batter onto griddle
-when finished douse with a little maple syrup or whipped cream
-add a few extra chips for garnish
Jawa Java
½ cup chocolat
½ coffee (yes, decaf is fine)
For dinner, how about Princess Lea Lasagna with Skywalker Sausage
-alternate layers of tomato sauce, lasagna noodles, ricotta, basil mixture (some
eggs to mixture). Close with pasta layer. Sprinkle parmesan ot romano
over the top and bake at 350 for 35-45 minutes.
For Skywalker sausage, simply brown sausage and serve with the lasagne.
Remember, the possibilities are endless! Just have fun with it and enjoy!
